HISTORY OF MAWARIDUSSALAM BOARDING SCHOOL

Islamic boarding school (Ponpes) education is an Islamic education model that is widely used and accepted in some Islamic countries. Even been used also in nonMuslim countries by means of boarding school system, educational boarding for 24 hours. But in those countries, educational boarding school has undergone many rapid progress and development, while boarding school educational institutions in Indonesia still have ups and downs, and even more the less exist and have not been able to grow rapidly as similar institutions in other countries.

The boarding school conditions generally in Indonesia is always up and down, it happens also for boarding school in North Sumatra. Most of boarding school in North Sumatra can’t grow consistently. Many are static, both in quantity or quality development of students, teachers, network, stake holders and others. Most of boarding school at this North Sumatra can survive with an existing course.

This is where the fature of Gontor graduate, especially those who have vowed to fight through the boarding school. Wherever they stand, they try to develop their potential, thus actively participate in realizing the ideals of Trimurti ‘a thousand Gontor’ in Indonesia. Among boarding school that exist and are consistently well developed are who was raised by the Gontor graduate.

But many problems experienced by Gontor graduate in realizing a thousand Gontor in North Sumatera, especially in matters of boarding school idealism. With a philosophy of life doctrine like ‘do kindness and do not be appreciated’, ‘make a sacrifice but do not be a victim’, and ‘ give boarding school life and do not look for life in it’, Gontor graduate really want to make a boarding school as a land of devotion and struggle, not just teaching and land to live.For the case in North Sumatra, Gontor graduate has many experiences in building and supporting the growth of boarding scchool. Some are still consists with various obstacles. But some also a lack of harmony and not in line. Often, while still small, really obedient (Sam’an wa tha’atan)` to Gontor. But when it developed and became large, many boarding school who are actually want to break away from the influence of Gontor and stand on its own, which is realized by ‘changing boarding school idealism’ with the reason for the change, professionalism and improve the system, so it can be a reason for ‘no use services of gontor graduate anymore’.

Starting from the above phenomenon, is a group of Gontor graduate always youthful and energetic, which from the beginning was determined to develop boarding school in North Sumatera, brought together by faith and boarding school idealism, they vowed to seek a solution and get out of the instability development this boarding school, by establishing new eternal boarding school until the Day of Resurrection, like the Gontor ideals in East Java. They are Mr. Drs. Syahid Marqum, S.Pd.I, Mr. Drs. Basron Sudarmanto, S.Pd.I, Mr. Drs. Junaidi, Mr. Drs. H. Maghfur Abdul Halim, S.Pd.I, and Mr. H. Abdul Wahid Sulaiman, Lc, S.Pd.I.

Since early 2008, five men are often met to evaluate progress in development of boarding school. In addition to also consult, communicate pleaded suggestions, advice and guidance from various group that it knows with boarding school world, especially to Mr. Dr. K.H. Abdullah Syukri Zarkasyi, the head master of Gontor Islamic boarding school in East Java and Mr. Drs. K.H. Sofwan Manaf Mukhayyar, M. Si, the head master of Darunnajah Islamic boarding school, Jakarta.From a long discussion, So far gontor graduate only helped raise schools belong to foundations or endowments of others, and can not guarantee will be ‘peace of mind’ of Gontor graduate are serve and fought in boarding school. So sooner or later, must be prepared to move (hijarah) step to build a new boarding school.

At one point Mr. Dr. K.H. Abdullah Syukri Zarkasyi, MA motivating, “It’s better you become the head of fish, rather than the tail snapper. Gontor graduate should not be a robot, usually follow people, ‘which teach important and steaming kitchen’ mentally, but Gontor graduate must be a key player in developing of boarding school “. “In North Sumatra there are no body of Gontor graduate who develop boarding school of his own. So far only involved people. Can not be measured abilities. I’m proud of you “, he added.In addition to realize the ideals of Trimurti ‘a thousand Gontor’ in Indonesia, this migration step motivated by a desire to further develop the potential. Because of frequent repositioning after boarding school be big, who positioned the teachers only teach in the classroom, so that their potential can not be used optimally. If this phenomenon is left alone, of course, can erode the potential they have, even to kill the character of the mentality of dedication and spirit of struggle that had been implanted by Gontor.For that, taken its strategic steps to realize the dream of founding a new battle field Ponpes as desired since the beginning of 2008 until finally in 2010.
